Badgers which will be affected by development will need to be excluded prior to works.
This exclusion will require that a Natural England Badger Licence is in place. Developers need to be aware of the timing constraints for exclusion which can only happen between July and the end of November in any one year.
When planning a badger exclusion it is important to understand that badgers dig holes. While it is possible to simply exclude the badger and let it find its own new home it may be more effective to provide a new artificial sett which has been sited in an area which is convenient and will not disrupt the development, particularly when it is completed.
Artificial setts are designed with tunnels and chambers in place before the exclusion and are pre bated to attract the badgers to them.

Following the successful exclusion and monitoring, the sett can then be destroyed prior to works to prevent the badger returning.
